With the introduction of the Balanced Labor Market Act (WAB) on Jan. 1, the use of flexible staff seems to be becoming less popular. Are you indeed more expensive if you employ more flex workers? And which cons or conversely, do flex workers offer advantages over permanent employees?

The Borstlap Committee proposes measures to ensure that flexible work is discouraged by making it more attractive for employers to have permanent (indefinite) employees. In practice, however, just the opposite appears to be the case. The other side of the coin, however, is that millions of employees who are currently in (permanent) employment will, in part, be given less security as a result. In fact, it seems that with the proposals of the Borstlap Committee basically everyone becomes a kind of flex worker. This does not seem to be a good trend. In fact, despite what the Borstlap committee said, the percentage of flex workers deployed in the last three months increased by 8%, compared to 2019. A significant increase. And if it is up to the estimation of Knowledge Center TNO, in the course of 2020, one out of three employees a flex worker.
